Jubilee-Open's Final Ceremony: Dr. Christian Issler, President of the Schachgesellschaft Zürich

by Christian Rohrer 17. August 2009 20:59

Kongresshaus Zürich, 15 August 2009

"Ladies and Gentlemen, dear chess friends,

half smiling, half sad I say: The games are over! Smiling – because we had a magnificent tournament in a great atmosphere with a lot of exciting games. Sad – because after one week we already have to bid farewell again. Never in the long history of the Zürcher Schachgesellschaft have so many strong players from so many different countries been our guests. I thank you all for coming to our jubilee-tournament and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did and will always keep it in good memory. Until the end of our anniversary year we’d like to record the most important and most exciting moments as well as the best games in a small Festschrift. You are kindly invited to contribute and send us your best games or small anecdotes. Our jubilee-homepage will still be available for some time from now, and this is also where you will be informed about when and how the Festschrift can be bought.

The next main events will be the Champions‘ Simultan and the Champions‘ Rapid Tournament with the actual and former World Champions at the Bahnhofshalle Zürich. I’d gladly invite you to be part of this unique occasion. But even if you can’t be present personally, everything can be followed on the internet, commented by the Grandmasters Bischof, Hort and Vogt. Boris Spassky will even comment on the Rapid Tournament.

On the 17th and 18th of October we will complete our anniversary with the final round of the Swiss Teams Championship at the Novotel Zurich-West. I’d like to kindly invite you to that event already now. In case you enjoyed this tournament and don’t want to wait for our 300st anniversary to visit Zurich again, there will be an earlier occasion at the end of this year: On the 26th of December the “Zürcher Weihnachtsopen” will begin – organised by our tournament director Georg Kradolfer.

Before we proceed to the distribution of prices, I’d like to thank my team for their great effort, first of all the tournament director Georg Kradolfer and the arbiters Josef Nemecek, Albert Baumberger, Rahel Umbach and Jesse Angst. Axel Fritz was responsible for the live transmission of the games on the internet. Christian Rohrer was in charge of all communicational issues. Last but not least our field helper, Betti Hildebrandt: Thank you very much, all of you!

Now we come to the distribution of the prices. The prices of the Master’s tournament are sponsored by the Alois Nagler-foundation that was founded in memory of our honorary president by Ralf Hess. He will hand out the main prices in this tournament. The prices for the best women and juniors will be handed out by Eva and Peter Nagler. (...)

Now we come to the distribution of the prices of the general tournament. The prices are sponsored by the ACCENTUS foundation (Swiss Chess); the prices will be handed out by Rahel Umbach. Our tournament is completed with the distribution of the prices and I thank you once again for your participation and wish you a good and safe return home!"
